Why is Technology Moving so Quickly?

If you have been paying attention at all over the past couple of decades (really, the past several of them), then you have no doubt noticed that the world of technology is moving at a speed that you could not expect anything to go without either rocket engines or a heaping helping of some kind of “upper” drugs.  If you gave a race horse cocaine and amphetamines, it could not race this quickly, and it seems as if nobody in the world knows why this is.  But when you really think about it, the answer is almost an obvious one.

Consider the fact that technology moves as quickly as a group of people can cooperate on making something which has never been seen before, or on improving something which has.  Once this happens, yet another technological breakthrough pushes the human race forward by just that extra leap and bound.  And it seems as if the limits to our technology may not be reached for an extremely long time, considering how many of these innovations seem to spring forth from the proverbial woodwork with every passing year.  It is somewhere between inspirational and just downright scary to think about.

Consider that the human species is that type of creature which is always going to be on the lookout for something which is new and different.  For human beings, there is simply never going to be anything which is better than getting a new toy of some sort that can be played with, even if this new toy is simply going to be forgotten in only a short time.  While we may very well have supremely short attention spans, this is ultimately what prompts such constant innovation.
